FILM SPOTTING: BollywoodFestiwal.pl 3rd edition (22-28 March)
I’ve been totally abysmal about updating this blog of late. Sorry about that :-/ A lot (of good things, mostly) are happening in my off-line life at the moment :)
My blog needs a change of formula I think, but I’ll get to that… eventually. Hopefully, you’ll see some bigger changes here in the next 2-3 months or so :)
{FILM SPOTTING}

Saturday, 27th March

Heaven On Earth (Canada, 2008)
I originally spotted this over a year ago :)

Trailer
The sceptical part of me thinks that…
This movie seems to have been panned by most everybody and I see no reason why I shouldn’t believe the reviews :] It looks like one of those really generic and outdated Bollywood romance films.
The excited part of me thinks that…
Well… Shahrukh Khan is in it :] Not in a lead role mind you… I think originally this was meant to be a cameo, but they extended it or something. I don’t think SRK actually did much publicity for it. After seeing Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi I declared that the next time SRK would do a conventional sort of romance I would seriously doubt I want to see it and then see it anyway and well… that’s exactly my mindset here ;)
Singh Is Kinng (Australia/India, 2008)
Runtime: 135′
Director: Anees Bazmee
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Om Puri, Kiron Kher, Javed Jaffrey
Production House: Blockbuster Movie Entertainers, Big Screen Entertainment
Plot: (from imdb)
A comic caper about Happy Singh, a Punjabi villager who goes through a series of misadventures and eventually becomes the Kinng of the Australian underworld.

The sceptical part of me thinks that…
This is clearly going to be mindless entertainment, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing ;)
The excited part of me thinks that…
This did extremely good box office (as in record-breaking box office in India) and it sounds like it’s a proper masala film in the best sense of the term *grin*
My Name Is Khan (India, 2010)
Runtime: 124′
Director: Karan Johar
Cast: Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, Tanay Chheda
Production House: Dharma Productions, Red Chillies Entertainment
Plot: (from imdb)
Rizwan Khan, a Muslim from the Borivali section of Mumbai, suffers from Asperger’s syndrome, a form of high-functioning autism that complicates socialization. The adult Rizwan marries a Hindu single mother, Mandira, in San Francisco. After 9/11, Rizwan is detained by authorities at LAX who mistake his disability for suspicious behavior. Following his arrest, he meets Radha, a therapist who helps him deal with his situation and his affliction. Rizwan then begins a journey to meet US President Obama to clear his name.

The sceptical part of me thinks that…
Well… I was very excited about this until I saw the trailer ;) SRK looks very hammy on it, which immediately put me off.
The excited part of me thinks that…
I still think the story sounds fab and it’s been getting great reviews (so has SRK in fact), so despite some scepticism I have high hopes for it :)
