Set in the Toronto suburb of Brampton, “Heaven in Earth” is the story of a Ludhiana girl Chand (Preity Zinta) who moves here after marrying Rocky Grewal (Vansh Bhardwaj) only to find herself locked in a loveless marriage, and a life of beatings and torture by her husband and in-laws.

Why it might be worth seeing
Deepa Mehta is a Canadian-based Indian director, whose last film (Water) was nominated for an Academy Award. She takes up a lot of social issues and very well at that. The story she’s telling this time is much more common than you might think - many Indian men in Western countries look for wives in India and the marriages often go horribly wrong.
I generally want to see more of Deepa Mehta’s films - I’ve only seen Earth, which had a huge impression on me. This one looks particularly interesting because of Preity - even on the trailer she’s a totally different Preity to the one I “know” *grin* She’s gotten a lot of good reviews for this and even won Best Actress at the Chicago film festival, so I’m really looking forward to seeing her in this part. Preity has actually said it’s the most difficult film of her career.
