Are sex strikes becoming popular?
The first time I heard about women striking by withholding sex from their men was a couple of months ago. In Kenya things seem to have gone further.
The women in Kenya are worried that the political situation in the country has become so tense that it may have violent consequences - like it did two years ago. Therefore many of them have vowed to deny their men sex for a week and they even talked of paying sex workers to go on strike with them. Furthermore, the strike has been supported by the Prime Minister’s wife!
Whether the strike has achieved its purpose I have no idea, but it certainly seems to have effected Kenyan men. One man has actually sued the activists who came up with the idea:
James Kimondo told reporters outside the Nairobi High Court his wife had observed the boycott and caused him “anxiety and sleepless nights”.
“I have been suffering mental anguish, stress, backaches, lack of concentration,” he said.
