Iran supporting Afghanistan
I’m trying to finally get back to reading news - I miss it :]
So I just read an article about a railway being built between Afghanistan and Iran, financed by the USA. Somehow I found it strange since the US is supposed to consider Iran evil and all. Even more interesting, it says Iran has contributed 560mln dollars to help rebuild Afghanistan.
Of course it all makes total sense as they’re neighbours, I just somehow failed to connect the dots up together. When Afghanistan is fit to stand up on its own feet one can imagine there will be a lot of trade between the two countries. In fact precisely that is the reason for building the railway - the US wants to connect Afghanistan in this way to all its neighbours. With the exception of China (which only borders with Afghanistan on a very narrow strip of land) Iran is by far Afghanistan’s largest neighbour and probably the one that is going to gain the most out of a strong Afghanistan.
As pointed out by Fred in the comments, my mind was in some other universe at the time of reading the article and so half of what I wrote is completely inaccurate ;)
