Trailer
I think the trailers are better than the film ;) Here’s the theatrical trailer:
I also quite liked the Character Promo and the Dhoom Again Promo ;)
Impressions In Short
Just another cheesy Bollywood action film. Though it would probably watch better in the cinema (some of the stunts would be quite effective on the big screen I think).
More About the Film
The plot was pretty ridiculous really, which I sometimes love in Bollywood, but this was ridiculous in the bad way IMO :] I tend to have a soft spot for ridiculous Bollywood stunts for example (they’re funny!), but I didn’t particularly like even the stunts in this one.
It was interesting to see Hrithik as the bad guy. I had high hopes, but unfortunately IMO he blew it :] It’s a shame cause it was a pretty developed character and he could have done a lot with it. And it’s not even that he isn’t physically able to do it or something like that (for some reason I’m convinced he can pull something like this off, even though I can’t explain why I think so ;) ). He’s just too self-conscious :]
Mind you, the cast generally wasn’t too spectacular (I think I liked Aishwarya the best, but she wasn’t amazing either).
The strong point of the film is how interesting the villains (Hrithik and Aishwarya) were as characters and the ending is great. The relationship between Hrithik and Aishwarya’s characters played out very intriguingly and there’s an extremely melodramatic scene between them which culminates in a kiss - a controversial scene that ;) Aishwarya and Abhishek had started going out with each other at the time this was out in cinemas, so the tabloids loved it ;) Also, Aish and Hrithik actually got sued for the kiss (some people considered it inappropriate - not that the court took this seriously or anything). The “kissing scandal” culminated with the gossip that Amitabh Bachchan had asked for the scene to be removed for the DVD edition, no idea if that one is true though (my Polish DVD certainly featured it).
But I rather think the kiss was nothing special :] What goes on before the kiss was much more interesting (even though I think it’s a shame the performances weren’t better).
Recommended?
Not really, though I suppose you could watch it if you have a good reason for it (one of the stars for example :]).
On the other hand maybe I’m weird and just don’t get it - it was one of the biggest box office hits ever in India.
