Impressions
For a film that I think both me and Kinga watched for the cultural experience rather than for the cinematic one, it was really enjoyable. It was my first experience with Tibetan culture - weird, come to think of it, considering how talked about Tibet is nowadays.
It’s a low budget, no make-up, nice landscapes kind of film. But despite that it actually has some pretty interesting aesthetics owing to the traditional Tibetan costumes, amusing miniature ponies and finally the physical appearance of the Tibetans themselves.
The story is a moralistic, mythological tale - not exactly gripping material, but very nicely told.
Recommended?
Very much so if you’re at least mildly interested in finding out a bit about the culture of Tibet and don’t mind films which are slightly slower paced with a no make-up and no fancy lighting kind of approach.
Otherwise, probably not.
